1) What are some things you learned about "you" and who you are as an artist?

I learned that I like things precise. I tend to experiment several times before confidently placing something on a final piece. I consider that fairly conservative. I am not a huge free hand drawer. I tend to use rulers and templates. I have always been attracted to art by Kandinsky, Miro, and Klee.

Something interesting that came to mind as I was reflecting. I create a lot of 3D art, however, in 2D art I do not like to pack a lot of 3D things. For intense, I don’t not like to add value to give depth and I not interested in images with linear perspective. I have not thought this completely through. I need time to process it completely.

2) In what ways did you succeed with the goals of this project?

My major goal was to use shape and color to balance and unity my artwork. I feel that I clearly used shape to bring unity within my artwork. The half circles or crescent shapes are found in a variety of locations and sizes within the artwork. For example, on the bottom of the piece, the goat’s head is a crescent followed by another crescent on its horn and then three large half circles to make up goat’s body. This is echoed by the crescent pattern of the water. Furthermore, I added half circles to the man’s checks in the middle of the artwork and then finally several crescents to the crows crown at the top of the work. Circles are scattered throughout and I used organic shapes and triangles to emphasis areas. Like I stated throughout my practice, I had trouble balancing color in my piece. In the end, I feel that the color is clearly balanced. Practice paid off. The wall on the right balances the blue body on the left. Red is in smaller areas through out the work. Dark green is in the top left and bottom right. Complimentary colors (Red and Green) work to add visual contrast and brightness to the work. White is used to emphasis three key areas of the piece: the Observer, the Man and the Goats Horn.

3) What specific areas do you feel were made with high skill and quality?

I believe the artwork was colored with high skill. Doing color pencil on such a large area is tedious and I had to combat coloring fatigue.

On a conceptual note, I like the variety that I added to circles at the top of the work. Note only do they get smaller towards the White Observer. Which draws the view toward his eyes. But the variance in the size and pattern gives them more interest.

4) What aspects do you feel proud of?

I am extremely pleased how the crows direct the viewer’s attention to the man’s face. The White Observer in the upper right corner reinforces this emphasis of direction. On a lesser note, the goat’s eye is looking up and back at the man. That was not planned and just worked out by chance.

Also, I am happy to be done. At the beginning of the project I didn’t think I would have time to complete it, but I pulled it off in the end.

5) What areas do you want Mr. Hansen to notice or look closely at?

I would like Mr. H to notice that the red circle of the bucket and green water symbolizes Bangladesh. The red and green hues are very close to the ones used on the Bangladeshi Flag. Also, the partial red circle mirrors the red sun on the flag and the green water links to the countries bountiful supply of the resource.
